State Intervention
What we're preparing for
Under current state law, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) may take over an entire school district if even one campus is rated low performing for five years in a row.
Two of our schools, Webb and Burnet, have now received a fifth consecutive "F" rating, which could lead to a state takeover of Austin ISD. After an appeal process, TEA is expected to announce its plan for the district this fall, and a takeover could begin as early as January 2027.
We encourage all families to stay informed and get involved. Please review these resources and share with your communities.

ACPTA Resolution
Our ACPTA Resolution comes from Fort Worth Council’s wisdom, from watching and learning from student, teacher and community experiences in Houston, Wichita Falls and Beaumont, and from reflecting on the values of our AISD PTAs.
Our Resolution is written to demonstrate we are informed, aligned and engaged, and contains two parts. The Whereas clauses lay the shared foundation of facts and values. The Be It Resolved clauses are the positions the council is adopting. Every factual claim is backed by an endnote at the end of the document. Access the resolution here:
Petition for Burnet and Webb families
Burnet and Webb are facing a difficult choice because they have received five consecutive F ratings. Texas law requires state action.
Parents have two paths:
-
Do not petition: TEA will determine the next steps, which may include closing the school or appointing a Board of Managers to oversee the district, which would then affect all AISD schools.
-
Petition for closure: Parents can ask TEA to close the school, giving the community a voice in what happens next. If a majority of parents sign, TEA is required to accept the petition, and parents would work with AISD to determine what’s next, including what happens with the new Burnet campus and all Burnet or Webb students.
