Wild times in AISD, friends. Here are the recaps from last week's back-to-back Board meetings, and now there's a new consolidation plan on the table! We're here if you need to vent, cry, or hold a hand. All in this together.

From recapper-extraordinaire Sharyn Vane:

The board held back-to-back meetings last week, including a work session to dig into specifics of the draft consolidation plan. That plan changed significantly Nov. 4, when the district announced it was postponing three closures and several

boundary changes from the Nov. 20 vote.

Top-line takeaways to be aware of:

  • Read the Nov. 4 superintendent's letter here. Bryker Woods, Maplewood, and Palm's proposed closure will not be up for a vote on Nov. 20. Boundary changes not tied to a Turnaround Plan will also be delayed.

  • A revised draft was released Oct. 31. You can read it here. (Anticipate a new revised document at some point that will reflect changes from the Nov. 4 announcement.)

  • Want more details on projected savings? View a report here; click on the embedded link on the last page of that document to see slides that show expected savings by campus. Again, this will all likely be revised in light of the Nov. 4 announcement.

  • See more details on the district's vision for academics here and here.

  • A new comment card is open through Nov. 14. See trends and topics from the more than 7,000 comment cards submitted in the first round here. The most common topic was boundary adjustments.

  • You can read the trustees' written and from-the-dais questions about the plan from the past few weeks here and here (The second link includes an answer to what would happen if the decision is delayed, which takes on new weight given the Nov. 4 news).

  • There is one more general Q&A meeting scheduled on the plan. It will be Nov. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Delco center. Find details here.

The board will be discussing the revised draft Nov. 6 at its Information Session and will vote on some aspects of the plan Nov. 20.
