A majority of the board voted to approve the district recommendation to immediately close Paredes Middle School. The vote was 7-2, with Trustees de Urioste and Quintana voting against the closure. Paredes' amended Turnaround Plan now goes to the Texas Education Agency for approval.

The 2026-27 board year started early with the first of two special meetings called to consider Supt. Segura's proposal to close Paredes Middle School just weeks before classes begin. The July 28 information session was the trustees' first chance as a group to discuss the sequence of events leading to what Trustee Kauffman called a "shocking" recommendation.
