We're deep into it now with school consolidation plans. Read the complete recap here. The first Board discussion of the proposal was full of strong opinions and strong emotions. The district presented the complete plan to redraw boundaries, close schools, repurpose campuses, and save approximately $25 million, largely by employing fewer staff. Many speakers asked the district to slow down or make changes. Supt. Segura stressed the risks of not acting boldly and quickly.

Trustees had a lot of feedback, requesting an all-encompassing academic vision, better clarity and communication from the district, and for the district to continue to look at central office cuts. They requested more information on changes to the plan based on early community feedback, on academic alignment between schools with different accountability scores, on an equitable transportation plan, and on specific implementation plans and impacts to special education.

The district is hosting four community meetings to discuss the draft. Get details and register here.
