Packed board agendas have become the norm as we near the Nov. 20 vote on the consolidation draft and Turnaround Plans for several district campuses. At this information session, trustees talked about those two big topics, as well as a bilingual education audit critical of AISD's existing program, a more promising special education quarterly update, and third-grade literacy scores. Read the complete recap here.

Calendar check and helpful links as we move forward:

  • The newest version of the consolidation plan will be released Friday, Nov. 14, as part of the agenda and supporting materials for the board's Nov. 20 vote. It will incorporate the changes Supt. Matias Segura announced last week, which include postponing a vote on some schools' closure and boundary changes.

  • On Nov. 20, there will be a required public hearing on the draft Turnaround Plans before the board votes on the TAPs. That's in addition to the regular voting meeting, when trustees are expected to vote on the consolidation draft.

  • A planned work session scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 13 was scrapped Nov. 12. The agenda had focused on scorecard measures, but trustee conversation in the Nov. 6 meeting indicated they'd planned to use the scorecard as a Lone Star Governance-approved way to talk about the draft Turnaround Plans.

  • Added to the meeting lineup: Two days' worth of board retreats, to cover mandatory annual board training from the state and additional Lone Star Governance training requirements. These meetings replace a Nov. 1 retreat that was cancelled due to the tragic fire that affected Trustees Quintana and Gonzales.

  • A new round of comment cards on the consolidation plan remains open. Feedback received through Nov. 12 will be considered for the draft plan up for a vote. Feedback from Nov. 13-19 will be used to inform transition planning.
